Blackboard Collaborate is a web conferencing/webinar platform designed for use in online teaching. Instructors create virtual classroom and online meeting spaces to share presentation material and communicate with you and the other participants via synchronous audio, video and chat tools. Webinar rooms include a collaborative whiteboard tool that allows you to interact with peers and your instructor in real time. Desktop applications and web resources such as multimedia can be displayed directly within the web conference room. An interactive recording can be created for each session allowing students the opportunity to review material following the live online webinar.
A live webinar is an online meeting where you can see, hear and interact with your instructor and fellow learners in real time. You may join the live online webinars via a link (URL) that your instructor will provide to you. If your schedule permits you may join the webinar on the specific dates and times that they are offered during the course. During a live webinar you have several options as to how you interact and communicate with the instructor and other participants. If you have a headset with a microphone or an embedded microphone in your computer, you can speak during the webinar. If you have a webcam, you also have the option of turning on a video feed so that other participants can see you while you have your feed active. Both speech and video are optional, however. There is also a chat function integrated within the webinar platform so you can communicate with the instructor and other participants via chat. If you’re unable to attend the live webinar, you will be able to view a recording of the webinar one your own schedule.
