What is a Learning Management Engine?

A Learning Management Engine (LME) is a software application that serves as an "operating system" for an enterprise educational technology environment.  It provides the core functionality for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of educational courses or training programs.

An LME helps your instructor deliver material to you and the other learners in your course, administer tests and other assignments, track your progress, and manage record-keeping. LMEs are focused on online learning delivery but support a range of uses and tools, acting as a platform for both in-class, online and hybrid courses.

The U of T School of Continuing Studies primarily uses Quercus, the University of Toronto's main LME.
