Absolutely! There is no obligation to complete all of the required courses unless you want a certificate. You are welcome to take a single course if you wish.
If you decide later that you would like to complete the remaining courses and earn a certificate, you are welcome to do so. Just make sure that you're aware of the number of years you have to complete the certificate which starts the first day of your first course.
The number of years you have to complete the certificate usually depends on the number of required courses. You will find this information on the certificate page. Under "Certificate Requirements" on the right side of the page, it will note how many years you have to complete the certificate.
If you are past the number of years to complete the certificate, you're welcome to submit a Petition to Extend a Certificate Program.
Your request will be forwarded to a supervisor for consideration, and we will let you know their decision. Each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
