After obtaining your UTORid information, take note of the “Secret Activation Key” field. Use the “Secret Activation Key” to activate your UTORid by following the steps below.
- Open a web browser (i.e., Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.)
- Go to: https://www.utorid.utoronto.ca/
- Click the Activate Button
- Follow the instructions there
Note: We strongly encourage you to save the password you create as part of this activation process in a secure location and set up the password recovery service as part of this activation process to assist with UTORid password resets if needed.
If your “Secret Activation Key" is blank that means you have been issued a UTORid previously that has already been activated. Please use the UTORid and the password you chose when you first activated it.
Make sure that you follow the instructions and go through the entire process. The last screen should say “Your activation request has been accepted“.
Effective October 17th, 2026 the UTORid activation process will no longer require a Secret Activation Key. If a Secret Activation Key is listed in your Quercus Access Letter, you must complete the activation process no later than October 16th, 2026. All Secret Activation Keys as of October 17th, will no longer be valid to utilize to activate your UTORid. If you did not activate your UTORid by October 16th please visit our website regarding the new Self-Serve Password Reset (SSPR) process or contact the University of Toronto Information Commons Help Desk for further assistance.
